Dear Minister Wilkinson,

I respectfully urge you to pass Bill S-203 through committee without amendment.

I am deeply concerned that whales and dolphins continue to live in captivity in Canada. In confinement and isolation, these highly intelligent and social marine mammals suffer serious health problems, reduced lifespans and high infant mortality rates.

I write to you today in the hope that you will take action to phase out this cruel practice and ensure that Bill S-203 passes expeditiously.

If the bill is held up in committee, this important legislation to end animal cruelty could die on the order paper and it could be years before Canada ends this inhumane treatment of cetaceans.
