More than 10,000 bears are kept on bile farms in China where they are “milked” for their bile to be used in traditional Chinese medicine.  The bears are kept in tiny “crush” cages where they are unable to turn around or stand on all fours…many have been kept between 20-30yrs or never released. The bile is extracted using various painful, invasive techniques, all of which cause massive infection in the bears.

Animals Asia’s work to end bear bile farming focuses on five key areas: Bear sanctuaries, reducing demand, public awareness, government and policy and the bear bile trade.  View flyer BaklavaForBears.
